Artificial intelligence (AI) is the new buzz word in hearing aid technology and it is having a huge impact on the manufacture of hearing devices. In the hearing world, AI is stepping in and doing the job of our hearing sense, increasing hearing capability, is personally adaptable to the individual and problem solving constantly.
AI technology is sophisticated enough to learn from experience and adjust to complex conditions.
High-end devices fitted with AI hearing aid technology are adjustable via Bluetooth from your smartphone to your devices, and if you adjust one hearing aid the other one will automatically adjust as well. The AI of the hearing aid is able to sense the hearing environment and determine the personal comfort levels and preferences of the wearer to make continuous adjustments. AI can detect a conversation from background noise and focus in on the voice of the other while muting down the background noise. These days hearing devices with AI can capture a wide range of acoustic situations and work with the human brain to affect the sense of sound.
Another benefit of AI hearing aid technology is fall detection. When your hearing aids have detected that you have fallen, a connection to an app via blue tooth will notify your nominated emergency contacts.
Widex and SoundSense Learn – AI hearing aid technology
SoundSense Learn, the name says it all. This AI device is managed on your smartphone and it has the ability to learn from a wide array of adjustments and user input. This technology is easily managed with a simple interface on your phone.
SoundSense can reach optimal hearing outcomes when interacting in real-time with the wearer, in 20 or fewer steps.

Starkey Technologies Livio AI
The Livio AI hearing aids have produced a new technology called Hearing Reality™ that replicates how most of us would ordinarily hear. This technology uses complex, high-speed computer processing to filter out extraneous noise by up to 50% and focuses with clarity on the sounds of interest to the wearer.
The Livio AI also has motion tracking and fitness software much like a Fitbit to score your wellness and fitness levels. It also directly streams your television, phone calls and music straight to your hearing aids and you can turn streaming on and off just by tapping your ear.
Hearing Reality™ is breaking down language barriers with translation technology for 27 languages, displaying the language in English on your smartphone screen and converting to spoken English into your ears via the hearing aids.
This technology allows the user to adjust the hearing aids via their phone and request and receive adjustments from their audiologist without having to personally attend a clinic.

The stigma of wearing hearing aids is falling by the wayside, replaced by new and cool technology. New AI hearing aids are transforming the lives of the hearing impaired, encouraging the wearer to be proactive with tracking health and hearing, getting out into social situations more often and participating in workplace conversations and functions. The new hearing aid AI is taking a whole person, whole-body approach rather than concentrating on our listening sense.
